Ford targets Tesla’s sales record with a new $30,000 electric vehicle

Ford is setting its sights on a sales milestone reached in the United States so far only by Tesla, with a new electric pickup priced at about $30,000.

The automaker plans to use the affordable Fathom to pursue a major breakthrough in electric vehicles and is targeting sales of more than 100,000 units in its first year.

Ford believes the spacious, technologically updated pickup could become a genuine hit. At the same time, it wants to make production cost-efficient, a key part of its plan for the lower-priced vehicle.
