Ford unveils its most powerful convertible: the Mustang Dark Horse SC

Ford has introduced the new Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible, positioning it as the most powerful convertible the brand has ever produced. This model aims to elevate the driving experience by integrating Ford Racing engineering for open-air street driving, blending potent performance with sporty aesthetics.

The vehicle boasts significant chassis and suspension enhancements designed to optimize the driving experience. It is equipped with a standard 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine, delivering 795 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission ensures smooth, effortless gear changes for swift acceleration.

Ford Racing engineers adapted the Dark Horse SC's rigid chassis and equipped it with a next-generation MagneRide suspension. This setup promises a smooth, comfortable ride while maximizing street performance. This marks the first high-performance Mustang convertible since 2013, signaling Ford's intent to revive the spirit of its sports car heritage.

Arie Groeneveld, chief engineer for the Mustang Dark Horse SC, stated that while both the coupe and convertible were developed by Ford Racing, the convertible prioritizes the ultimate grand-touring experience over setting lap times. The new convertible will be available in Precision Grey metallic exterior paint with unique brake caliper colors and premium interior details in onyx black and space grey.

Ryan Shaughnessy, Ford's marketing manager, emphasized that the company is offering a new generation of drivers a premium, high-performance urban vehicle that is as enjoyable to be seen in as it is to drive. Orders for the Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible are scheduled to open in the fall of 2026, with models arriving in dealerships in spring 2027. Ford has not yet disclosed the price.
