Foreign investors control eight Danish football clubs

Eight Danish football clubs across the top two leagues now have foreign majority ownership.

Randers FC became the latest to fall under international control when a Japanese company, Suzuyo, purchased 80 percent of its shares. This move places Randers FC alongside several other prominent clubs with significant foreign investment.

In the Superliga, American investment firm Global Football Holdings (GFH) took a controlling stake in Brøndby IF in October 2022. FC Nordsjælland has been under the control of Egypt's Mansour Group since early 2021. Silkeborg IF is also majority-owned by an American group, Trivela Group, which holds 80 percent of the shares. AC Horsens was acquired by American millionaire William Harrison Binnie in 2023.

The trend extends to the 1. division, Denmark's second-tier league. HB Køge is controlled by Capelli Sport, an American sportswear producer. AaB is owned by the German investor group Sports Strategy Excellence 22 (SSE22). Additionally, the Five Castles Football Group LLC (FCFG), an investment group, took a majority stake in AB in November 2022.

These ownership changes reflect a broader internationalization of football club ownership in Denmark, with investors from various countries seeking stakes in the nation's professional leagues.
