Foreign Ministry confirms death of Kazakh citizen who mysteriously disappeared in U.S.

Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the death of Aset Kuralbay, a 24-year-old Kazakh citizen who had been reported missing in the United States. The ministry's press service stated that U.S. competent authorities identified the body discovered earlier as Kuralbay.

Kuralbay, who resided in the Chicago area, was last in contact with family on June 2, 2026. His phone became unreachable on June 7, and his personal documents and bank cards were left at his residence. Police located his car on June 10, and subsequently, the Foreign Ministry reported that authorities had found a body believed to be the missing Kazakh national, pending identification.

"We express our sincere and deepest condolences to his family and friends over this heavy loss," the ministry said in a statement. Kazakh diplomats are actively engaged with U.S. authorities and Kuralbay's relatives, offering necessary consular assistance. This support includes help with document processing and organizing the repatriation of his body back to Kazakhstan.
