Foreign national arrested in Osh for attempting to bribe police officer

Authorities in Osh, Kyrgyzstan, have arrested a foreign national who attempted to bribe a police officer. The incident occurred after the individual, born in 1980, was identified working within the city without the required registration and work permits.

“However instead of that, the citizen offered the police officer a bribe, trying to persuade him to take illegal actions for the opportunity to continue to stay illegally in the city,” the Interior Ministry Department reported.

Following the discovery of the illegal employment status, a protocol was drawn up, and the foreign citizen was informed about the necessity of obtaining proper documentation for legal residency and work in the country. However, instead of complying with the legal requirements, the individual reportedly offered a bribe to the police officer.

A criminal case was initiated under Article 345 “Giving a bribe” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The bribe was allegedly intended to influence the officer to overlook the illegal stay and allow the foreign national to continue working and residing in Osh without authorization. The police officer involved did not yield to the bribe attempt.

The suspect was detained red-handed in the service office of the building of the Department of Internal Affairs while transferring money.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 345 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, which pertains to bribery. The suspect was apprehended red-handed while attempting to hand over the money in the officer's service office. The Osh City Court has ordered a two-month pre-trial detention for the accused.

The Osh City Court chose a measure of restraint in the form of detention for a period of two months.
