Foreign Tourists Favor Night Markets: Two Kaohsiung Markets Make Top 10

Night markets remain a major draw for international visitors to Taiwan, with a recent survey by the Tourism Administration highlighting their popularity. The "2023 Survey of Outbound Travel Trends" revealed that a significant 86% of foreign tourists identified visiting night markets as their primary activity when visiting Taiwan.

Among the most frequented night markets, Taipei's Raohe Street Night Market led the pack with 25.48% of respondents visiting, followed closely by Ningxia Night Market (25.21%) and Shilin Night Market (25.57%). However, the southern city of Kaohsiung also saw two of its popular night markets make the top ten list. Liuhe Night Market secured the fifth spot with 7.12% of visitors, while Ruifeng Night Market followed at tenth place with 2.91%.

The accessibility of these markets appears to be a key factor in their appeal to foreign tourists. Both Liuhe and Ruifeng night markets benefit from proximity to Kaohsiung's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system. Liuhe Night Market is situated adjacent to Formosa Boulevard Station, a major interchange for the Red and Orange lines, with one exit directly leading to the market. Ruifeng Night Market is a short 300-meter walk from the Kaohsiung Arena Station on the Red Line, making it easily reachable for travelers navigating the city.
