Forest fire continues in Antalya as one worker is affected by smoke

A forest fire in the Kızılbölük area of Akbaş neighborhood, in Antalya’s Serik district, continued to burn after it broke out at about 3:30 p.m. Fire crews responded with one firefighting plane, five helicopters, about 70 water tenders and many forestry workers.

Water tankers from Antalya Metropolitan Municipality and Serik Municipality supplied the operation continuously. Gendarmerie units secured the area so crews could work, while commando units were sent to support security measures. AFAD teams remained on standby for possible developments.

Officials coordinated the response from a fire management center established in the area. Serik District Governor Cemal Şahin, General Director of Forestry Bekir Karacabey and Antalya Regional Forestry Director Kemal Kayıran followed the operation and directed the deployment of teams.

After darkness ended the use of aircraft, crews continued from the ground with water tenders and heavy machinery. About 150 water tenders, construction machines and response vehicles, along with approximately 600 personnel, were working to contain and extinguish the flames.

One forestry worker involved in the firefighting was affected by smoke and taken to hospital. The worker was reported to be in good condition and remained under treatment. Authorities said they would determine the cause of the fire and the size of the affected area after the firefighting operation ends.
