Forest Fire in Quito’s Mastodontes Sector Has Three Active Fronts

A forest fire in Quito’s northern Mastodontes sector is burning along three active fronts, prompting a coordinated response from firefighters, police, traffic officials and the ECU911 emergency service.

The fire is located near Velasco Ibarra Avenue and Roldós Aguilera. ECU911 cameras detected the emergency and helped coordinate the response with the institutions responsible for handling it.

The Quito Fire Department sent 45 personnel and 15 units to contain the flames. A department helicopter has joined the ground teams and carried out 10 water drops as part of the effort.

Firefighters said strong winds and the type of combustible material in the area have produced a large amount of smoke and complicated the emergency. The department urged people nearby to take precautions as crews continue working on all three fire fronts.

National Police officers are securing the area, while the Metropolitan Transit Agency is also assisting at the scene. ECU911’s Zonal Center 2-9 continues to monitor the situation through its surveillance system and urged residents to call 911 in an emergency.
