Forest Fire Near Langscheid Under Control

Firefighters have brought a significant forest and meadow fire under control in the Mayen-Koblenz district near Langscheid. The local authorities announced on Instagram that the alert level has been reduced, and the command has been transferred back to the Vordereifel municipality. Fire crews will remain on-site to monitor the situation and conduct necessary follow-up extinguishing work.

The Landkreis praised the efforts of the emergency services over the past few days. Crucial support came from local farmers who assisted with water supply using their vehicles and water barrels. The State Forests of Rhineland-Palatinate also provided assistance, with heavy equipment used to create firebreaks in the forest to aid firefighting efforts.

The fire broke out on Friday, affecting approximately 50 hectares of forest and meadow. Hundreds of firefighters and two helicopters battled the flames for hours. Due to shifting winds, an evacuation of the villages of Langenfeld and Arft, with a combined population of around 900 people, was considered at one point. In the more remote district of Netterhöfe, 20 to 25 houses were evacuated, but residents were later allowed to return.
