Forest Fire Shuts Down A7 Highway in Southern Germany

The A7 highway in southern Lower Saxony, Germany, is completely closed due to a forest fire near Hann. Münden. The blaze is affecting the autobahn between the Hedemünden and Lutterberg junctions, close to the border with Hesse.

Police reported that the heavy smoke makes safe passage on the highway impossible. Firefighters and emergency services are on the scene. Drivers are being advised to seek alternative routes and avoid the area.

Initially, only the southbound lanes were closed. However, authorities soon extended the closure to the northbound lanes as well, citing the dangerous smoke conditions.

Traffic disruptions were compounded by an earlier accident on a diversion route, which had temporarily blocked part of the B3 federal road in Hann. Münden. This section of the B3 has since been reopened to help reroute traffic away from the closed A7.

The duration of the highway closure remains uncertain as emergency crews work to contain the forest fire.
