Former Callao Officials Sentenced to Prison for S/7.4 Million Corruption Scheme

A criminal network of former officials from the Callao Regional Government and other individuals has been sentenced to prison terms of up to seven and a half years. The judicial ruling found that the group illegally directed and overvalued the contracting of green area services for the Néstor Gambetta avenue, resulting in a loss of S/7,456,496.42.

The sanction was imposed on the former general coordinator of the administration of the Gambetta project, Elena Delgado, and the general manager of the company Pradera Grass E. I. R. L., Aybar Roca.

Sentenced to prison were Elena Delgado, former general coordinator of the Gambetta project administration, and Aybar Roca, general manager of the company Pradera Grass E. I. R. L. Fernando Barberena, former service inspector for the Callao Regional Government, and Henry Lazarte, an external contract architect, received six years of effective prison time.

The Specialized Prosecutor's Office against Corruption of Public Officials of Callao demonstrated that the former officials colluded illegally with the businessman between 2013 and 2014 to defraud the state. They manipulated terms of reference, inflated budgets, granted unjustified deadline extensions, and accepted deficient or unexecuted services.

In addition to their prison sentences, the convicted individuals are disqualified from holding public office and contracting with the state for the same duration as their prison terms. They, along with the company declared civilly liable, must pay S/8,472,496.42 in civil reparations to the state.
