Former communist secret police officer receives suspended sentence for student persecution

Miloš Knot, a former officer of the communist-era State Security (StB) in Czechoslovakia, has been given a two-year suspended prison sentence by the Prague Municipal Court. The court confirmed the sentence for abuse of power, stemming from Knot's involvement in the persecution of a student.

The student in question had been organizing lectures for signatories of Charter 77, a human rights initiative critical of the communist regime. Knot's actions as an StB officer involved in this persecution have now led to a judicial consequence, with the court finding him guilty of abusing his official authority.

In addition to the suspended sentence, Knot has been ordered to pay a fine of 26,700 Czech crowns. The court's decision is legally binding, meaning it is now final and cannot be appealed. This ruling brings a legal conclusion to the case concerning the StB's actions against the student.
