Former GKNB Officer in Issyk-Kul Region Charged with Corruption

Law enforcement agencies in Kyrgyzstan have brought corruption charges against a former high-ranking official of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) in the Issyk-Kul region. The individual, identified only by the initials U.N., formerly headed the sixth department of the GKNB's regional directorate.

Sources within the law enforcement bodies confirmed the charges. In a significant development, the Pervomaisky District Court in Bishkek has altered the pre-trial detention measure for the accused. Instead of remaining in custody, U.N. has been placed under house arrest, a measure that will remain in effect until the completion of the ongoing investigation.

The investigation itself is being conducted by the investigative service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This case highlights ongoing efforts within Kyrgyzstan to address corruption, particularly among officials in security and law enforcement agencies.
