Former governor's driver and parents arrested for drug trafficking

Police in Izmir have arrested a former district governor's driver and his parents on drug trafficking charges. The operation followed a technical and physical surveillance effort by the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch Directorate (KOM) of the Izmir Police Department.

Officers tracked a vehicle driven by police officer E.Ö., who had previously served as a driver for the Ortaca District Governor. The vehicle was stopped on the Aydın-İzmir highway, where a detailed search uncovered hidden narcotics. E.Ö., along with his parents who were traveling with him, were taken into custody.

Following procedures at the police station, the three suspects were transferred to the courthouse. A duty judge ordered their arrest and imprisonment on charges of drug trafficking and transportation.

In response to the incident, the Muğla Governorship has reportedly launched an administrative investigation. It was also noted that police officer E.Ö. had been placed on passive duty some time prior to the arrest.
