Former Indonesian Nutrition Agency Head Detained for Corruption Days After Presidential Inspection

Dadan Hindayana, the former head of Indonesia's National Nutrition Agency (BGN), faces corruption charges and has been detained by the Attorney General's Office. The charges stem from alleged mismanagement of the "Makan Bergizi Gratis" (MBG) program. His detention on Wednesday, June 3rd, followed a swift dismissal from his position by President Prabowo Subianto the previous evening.

Adding a layer of dramatic irony, Hindayana had reportedly rushed back from his Hajj pilgrimage to be present for President Prabowo's inspection of the Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) facilities in Palmerah, West Jakarta, on Tuesday, June 2nd. During the visit, the President observed the program's operations, including meal preparation and student consumption, aiming to ensure adherence to national nutrition standards.

However, by Tuesday night, the situation had drastically changed. President Prabowo officially removed Hindayana and two deputy heads of the BGN, citing disciplinary issues and concerns over the quality of food provided under the MBG program. The Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, announced the dismissals, stating that there had been "notes" regarding the program's implementation over the past 1.5 years. Hindayana's position has since been filled by Nanik Sudaryati Deyang.
