Former Jamaican Cabinet Minister Dean Peart dies at 77

Dean Peart, a former Cabinet Minister and stalwart of the People's National Party (PNP), has died at the age of 77.

Today, I join the people of North West Manchester and Jamaicans across the country in mourning the passing of former Member of Parliament and former Government Minister, Dean Peart.

Observer Online confirmed that Peart passed away on Sunday morning. Throughout his career, he held leadership positions in several ministries, including labor, environment and lands, and local government. He also served as the mayor of Mandeville and was the Member of Parliament for Manchester North Western, representing the PNP for five consecutive terms before retiring prior to the December 2011 elections.

Mikael Phillips, Peart's successor for the Manchester North Western constituency, paid tribute to him on Instagram. "Today, I join the people of North West Manchester and Jamaicans across the country in mourning the passing of former Member of Parliament and former Government Minister, Dean Peart," Phillips stated. He added, "As a five-term Member of Parliament for North West Manchester, Dean Peart dedicated his life to public service and to the advancement of the people he was elected to represent."
