Former manager explains why women ‘want Kwam 1’s children’

Ayo Shonaiya, the former manager of Fuji music star Wasiu “Kwam 1” Ayinde, has stepped forward to defend the singer amidst a paternity controversy. Shonaiya asserted that numerous women intentionally desire to have children with Kwam 1, characterizing the singer as an "enigma" whose life and the attention he garners from women are often misunderstood.

Wasiu Ayinde is an enigma. People who have never been around him don’t know how his life is. He is a ‘Chosen One’. Women line up just to be noticed by him, want to get pregnant by him and have his offspring. I have seen this with my own eyes.

Shonaiya stated in an X post on Sunday that people unfamiliar with Kwam 1's life do not grasp the reality of his situation. "He is a ‘Chosen One’,” Shonaiya claimed. “Women line up just to be noticed by him, want to get pregnant by him and have his offspring. I have seen this with my own eyes.” He suggested that the public's focus has been solely on Kwam 1, overlooking the "willingness of some women to have children with the Fuji star" because they desire a child with his "bloodline," likening it to a "souvenir."

Adding to the controversy, Kwam 1 himself made remarks during a performance that were widely criticized. While performing at the 10th coronation anniversary of the Onikate of Ikate, Lateef Adams, the singer described a pregnancy as an "unnecessary and free gift." These comments drew significant backlash, with many Nigerians criticizing him for publicly mocking Ogechi Eleana, who had claimed the Fuji musician fathered and abandoned her 12-year-old daughter.

Kwam 1's saxophonist, Olawale Adekoya, later attempted to mitigate the damage, apologizing to Nigerians and clarifying that the remarks were not directed at Ms. Eleana or her daughter. Adekoya explained that the rhythm emerged spontaneously out of excitement and was not intended to offend anyone, stating that Kwam 1 was unaware of the interpretation his drummer had given the rhythm until that day.
