Former Múzquiz mayor arrested, investigated for embezzlement and abuse of functions

Tania Vanessa Flores Guerra, the former mayor of Múzquiz in Coahuila, has been arrested in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León. The apprehension was carried out based on an arrest warrant requested by the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office of Coahuila.

Flores Guerra is under investigation for the alleged crimes of embezzlement and the abusive exercise of functions. The State Attorney General's Office of Nuevo León confirmed that detectives from the State Investigation Agency, in collaboration with Coahuila authorities, made the arrest in the San Agustín neighborhood.

The investigation stems from a case initiated concerning the alleged embezzlement of movable assets, resulting in an estimated patrimonial damage of 15 million pesos. Following her arrest, Flores Guerra was transferred to a social reinsertion center in Coahuila, where she awaits a control judge's decision on her criminal proceedings.

During the initial hearing, Flores Guerra's defense requested an extension to decide on her link to the process, with the hearing's continuation scheduled for July 9. The judge imposed justified preventive detention as a precautionary measure, meaning the former mayor will remain in custody while the judicial process unfolds.
