Former Prime Minister Kim Min-seok to declare candidacy for Democratic Party leadership in Gwangju tomorrow

Former Prime Minister Kim Min-seok is set to announce his bid for the leadership of the Democratic Party on July 6, marking his return to party politics just six days after resigning from his premiership. The announcement is planned to occur in Gwangju, a city significant for its role in South Korea's democratic movement.

Kim's campaign will commence with a visit to the May 18th Democratic Cemetery in Gwangju on the morning of July 6. Following this commemorative visit, he is scheduled to formally declare his candidacy at 10 a.m. in the same city. This location choice underscores the historical and symbolic importance of Gwangju in South Korea's political landscape.

After his Gwangju declaration, Kim will travel to Seoul to further solidify his candidacy. He is expected to officially formalize his run for party leadership around 2:10 p.m. at the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, other contenders are also positioning themselves for the party leadership race. Jung Cheong-rae, a former leader of the Democratic Party, has not yet disclosed his official campaign launch date. Additionally, Representative Song Young-gil is anticipated to announce his candidacy early next week.
