Former Tainan official heads Chen clan association, plans expansion

Chen Rong-chih, former Director-General of Tainan City's Social Affairs Bureau, has been elected as the new chairman of the Tainan Chen Clan Association. He officially received the seal of office from the outgoing chairman, Chen Shan-run, during the association's 18th general meeting held over the weekend.

Chen Rong-chih outlined his vision to expand the association's organizational structure. He plans to formally request a name change from the Tainan City Social Affairs Bureau to the "Tainan City Chen Clan General Association." This rebranding aims to facilitate the establishment of district-level clan associations across all 37 districts of Tainan, thereby deepening the organization's roots within the city.

During the handover ceremony, Chen Shan-run, who served two terms as chairman, was appointed honorary chairman. He expressed gratitude for the support received, highlighting his efforts to unite Chen clan members across the greater Tainan area. Under his leadership, the association expanded to include community groups from various districts and established a youth league to inject new energy.

Chen Rong-chih, who also has extensive administrative experience as the former secretary-general of the Tainan City Council, noted the significant population of the Chen surname in Taiwan, accounting for 11.4% of the national total. He intends to create a platform to connect various existing Chen clan organizations, ancestral shrines, and temples. His leadership team will focus on fostering youth engagement and upholding principles of respecting the elderly, supporting the young, and aiding the vulnerable.
