Formula 3 driver Zdenek Chovanec dies at 21

Zdenek Chovanec, a promising Formula 3 driver, has died at the age of 21, sending shockwaves through the motorsport community. The International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the official Formula 3 account confirmed the tragic news on X, formerly Twitter, expressing deep sorrow and extending condolences to his family and friends. Chovanec, who competed in the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2021 and 2022, was a rival to Argentine driver Franco Colapinto during the 2022 season. Born in Venezuela to Czech parents, Chovanec moved to Portugal as a teenager and represented the country throughout much of his racing career. His journey began in Portuguese karting in 2018 before transitioning to single-seater racing. He participated in series such as the Formula 4 UAE Championship, the Italian Formula 4 Championship, Euroformula Open, the Asian Formula 3 Championship, and the Portuguese Speed Championship. A notable highlight was his dominant performance in the BOSS GP in 2022, where he won five out of six races. In 2023, he shifted his focus to endurance racing, competing in the Ultimate Cup Series and undergoing official tests for the GT World Challenge Europe. The causes of his death remain unknown. His funeral services were held in Matosinhos, Portugal.
