Fortis strengthens operation with new appointments

Fortis Global Insurance Plc has bolstered its leadership with the appointment of Dr Umar Faruk Umar as an Independent Non-Executive Director and Mr Ufuoma Ibru as a Non-Executive Director. These appointments have received approval from the National Insurance Commission, signaling a strategic move to enhance the company's governance and strategic direction.

The insurer stated that these appointments are part of a deliberate effort to enrich its board with seasoned professionals. The company's board expressed confidence that the new directors will leverage their extensive experience to propel business growth and expansion. "The board is confident that the new directors will bring their wealth of experience to bear in driving the growth and expansion of the business, and that the company will be further strengthened by their valuable contributions," the company said in a statement.

Dr Umar brings over 40 years of professional experience, with more than three decades dedicated to board and corporate governance. An educationist and public servant, he holds a PhD in educational psychology from the University of Wisconsin and has completed executive programs at Harvard and Stanford universities. His prior board experience includes roles at Ashaka Cement Plc and the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc, where he chaired various committees. He currently serves on the boards of GTL Registrars Limited and the Nigerian Capital Market Development Fund.

Mr Ibru, a legal practitioner, brings a wealth of experience in hospitality, tourism, and financial services. He holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Oxford and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2003. He also possesses a Bachelor's degree in mechatronic engineering from the University of London. The company highlighted his considerable expertise in corporate governance, strategic management, legal affairs, and stakeholder engagement as key assets for Fortis Global Insurance.
