Four AI Models Complete the Election Compass for Saxony-Anhalt. All Agree on One Party

An experiment using four artificial intelligence models to complete a "Wahl-O-Mat" (election compass) for the upcoming state election in Saxony-Anhalt revealed surprising results, particularly concerning the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.

While the AfD is projected to be the leading party in the actual election, all four tested AI models, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and Deepseek, consistently ranked the AfD in last place. This outcome suggests a potential bias or a fundamental difference in how these AI systems process political information compared to human voters or the general political landscape.

Differences emerged among the AI models in their alignment with other parties. ChatGPT showed a stronger affinity for the Social Democratic Party (SPD), The Left, and the Greens, aligning with them on approximately 80 percent of issues. Elon Musk's Grok AI also did not exhibit a strongly right-liberal profile, showing a greater gap between the SPD and the Greens compared to Google's Gemini.

However, a striking consensus emerged regarding the AfD, with all models showing significantly less than 50 percent agreement. This consistency across diverse AI platforms raises questions about their underlying programming or the data they were trained on. The BSW party, positioned left on economic issues but conservative on social ones, also consistently scored below 58 percent.

A key factor influencing these results appears to be the AI models' tendency to avoid definitive political stances. Gemini, for instance, responded neutrally to nearly three-quarters of the questions, while Grok did so in almost two-thirds of cases. This neutrality, interpreted by the Wahl-O-Mat as half agreement, compressed the results, bringing established parties closer together. ChatGPT, in contrast, took clearer positions, often aligning with left-leaning parties, which amplified the differences between other parties. The AfD and BSW fell outside the typical range of the established parties on many issues, contributing to their lower rankings.
