Four Central Java Districts Battling Wildfires

Indonesian disaster management officials are engaged in a fierce battle against wildfires spreading across four districts in Central Java. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) confirmed that joint teams are working tirelessly to extinguish blazes in Klaten, Grobogan, Blora, and Wonogiri.

In Klaten, a one-hectare rice field fire in Pedan district was reportedly sparked by uncontrolled trash burning. Local disaster and fire departments manually contained the blaze. Meanwhile, in Grobogan, teams are working to control fires covering 3.4 hectares across two villages. These fires originated from burning corn stubble after the harvest.

Blora and Wonogiri districts are also contending with fires, each consuming about one hectare of land, including sugarcane fields in Blora. This marks a recurring issue for Blora, which experienced larger fires earlier in July.

The BNPB stressed that these recurring incidents highlight the critical need for provincial governments, including Central Java, to remain on high alert. The current dry season, marked by minimal rainfall, significantly increases the potential for new fires to emerge, demanding rapid response capabilities.
