Four dead in Taiwan hiking trail rockfall; victim had researched hotel hostesses

A devastating rockfall incident on the Butterfly Valley hiking trail in Taichung, Taiwan, has claimed the lives of four individuals and left one person injured. The tragedy unfolded on the afternoon of June 27, casting a shadow over the popular tourist area.

Among the victims was Chi Hui-wen, 57, the deputy CEO of the Yang Hsin Cultural and Educational Foundation. Her academic background included a notable research project during her master's studies at Tunghai University's sociology department. For her thesis, Chi Hui-wen conducted extensive fieldwork, personally interviewing 12 women working as hostesses in hotels.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with natural environments, even in well-traveled locations. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the rockfall to understand the cause and prevent future occurrences.
