Four die as rainstorm wreaks havoc in Sokoto

A severe rainstorm has caused widespread devastation in Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Nigeria, claiming the lives of four people. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the fatalities and reported that hundreds of households were impacted by the disaster.

Tukur Abubakar, Head of Response, Research and Statistics at NEMA's Sokoto Field Office, stated that preliminary findings revealed numerous injuries alongside the four deaths. The storm inflicted extensive damage on residential buildings and critical public infrastructure. Notably, a primary school and a hospital were among the facilities severely affected, underscoring the severity of the incident.

NEMA teams have conducted damage assessments in affected communities, including Mallamawa, Mai Mushe, Kaura, Sabon Gari, and Rungin Tsamiya. The assessment aims to quantify the extent of the damage and identify the immediate humanitarian needs of the affected residents. The agency's efforts are focused on understanding the full scope of the disaster to facilitate necessary aid and support.
