Four French nationals missing after Nepal flash flood

Four French nationals are unaccounted for after a powerful flash flood swept through areas near the Nepal-Tibet border earlier this week. Eleonore Caroit, the French minister delegate for French nationals abroad, confirmed the figures on Friday.

The disaster struck after a glacier collapse on Wednesday. The resulting torrent of rock, ice, and mud surged through Himalayan river systems, causing widespread devastation. The flood has claimed at least 579 lives in Nepal and seven in China's Tibet region.

French authorities identified that 80 French citizens were in the affected area when the disaster occurred. Of these, 76 have been accounted for, leaving four still missing. The search for the missing individuals continues amidst the ongoing recovery efforts in the region.

As of Friday evening, the total number of missing persons across Nepal and Tibet had surpassed 2,000, highlighting the scale of the tragedy. Rescue operations are underway, but the remote and challenging terrain of the Himalayas complicates efforts.
