Four injured in Pyeongtaek after SUV driver allegedly mistakes gas pedal for brake

A multi-vehicle collision in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, has left four individuals injured, with authorities pointing to a suspected case of driver error. The incident occurred around 12:21 PM on Tuesday at the Gyeoksan 1 Intersection in Jinwi-myeon.

According to initial reports, a 60-year-old driver identified as 'A' was operating an SUV. While proceeding through a green light, the SUV collided with a 1-ton cargo truck that was also moving straight. The impact caused the cargo truck to lose control, leading to a secondary collision with two other SUVs.

'A' and the 50-year-old driver of the cargo truck, identified as 'B', suffered serious injuries. The drivers of the two SUVs involved in the secondary collision also sustained injuries. Fortunately, none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

Police are investigating the precise circumstances of the crash. Preliminary theories suggest that driver 'A' may have inadvertently pressed the accelerator pedal instead of the brake while stopped at a red light. Investigators are currently analyzing driver statements and reviewing black box recordings to determine the exact sequence of events.
