Four killed, six injured in MUV-lorry collision in Andhra Pradesh

A tragic accident in Andhra Pradesh's Palnadu district claimed the lives of four family members and left six others injured. The incident occurred around 3:30 am on Friday when the multi-utility vehicle (MUV) they were traveling in collided with a stationary lorry on the Macherla-Veldurthi highway.

There were, in all, 13 members in the vehicle, including the driver. They were all from Hyderabad and were going to Pamuru town in Markapuram district, to attend the last rites of their close relative, who passed away on Friday.

Police reported that the MUV, carrying 13 people including the driver, was en route from Hyderabad to Pamuru town in Markapuram district for the funeral rites of a close relative. Preliminary investigations suggest a tyre burst caused the vehicle to swerve and crash into the lorry, which had its hazard lights on and warning indicators placed behind it.

The truck driver switched on the vehicle’s parking lights and placed sticks and leaves behind it as warning indicators, before leaving for the town to find a mechanic.

The impact mangled the MUV, trapping the deceased inside. While three passengers escaped with minor injuries, six others sustained severe injuries and were taken to the Macherla government hospital for treatment. The Macherla police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including death due to negligence.
