Four men arrested after violent disorder near Pontypool, police say

A violent disorder in South Wales has resulted in four arrests and left two men in critical condition. The incident occurred around 7:15 PM on Thursday evening in Pontnewydd, near Pontypool. Gwent Police responded to the disturbance involving a group of men. Following the incident, three men were taken to the hospital for treatment. Two of the arrested individuals remain in police custody, while the other two are in critical condition. Detective Chief Superintendent Anne-Marie Salwey condemned the violence, stating, "Violence in any form is completely unacceptable and anyone who is found to be involved in this disorder will be dealt with as we will not accept this behaviour in our communities." She acknowledged that such reports may cause concern among residents and indicated an increased police presence in the area for ongoing inquiries. Authorities are specifically requesting information, including CCTV and dashcam footage, from the vicinity of Hospital Road and Mill Road between 7:00 PM and 7:30 PM on Thursday. A section of the road between Mill Road and Hospital Road remains closed in both directions, and motorists are advised to use alternative routes while the investigation continues.
