Four Nations Elite Baseball Tournament: Taiwan's lineup features only two amateurs, starting Fubon's 7th-round pick is 'quirky'

Taiwan's national baseball team is set to open the inaugural Four Nations Elite Baseball Tournament against the United States. The team's strategy for this crucial first match includes starting left-handed pitcher Li Sheng-han, who was recently selected by the Fubon Guardians in the seventh round of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) draft.

Head coach Tang Teng-kai explained the rationale behind this selection, noting that the team's coaching staff discussed the matchup. "Against American hitters, the faster he throws, the harder they hit," Tang stated, indicating a strategic decision to deploy a "quirky" left-handed pitcher to challenge the U.S. batters. This approach aims to disrupt the opponents' rhythm and capitalize on Li Sheng-han's unique pitching style.

The Taiwanese roster for the tournament comprises 28 players. Six active players from the CPBL have been supported for the national team, including Wu Cheng-hao and Tseng Sheng-an from the Wei Chuan Dragons, Chang Chao-hung and Ho Pin-shih-jung from the Rakuten Monkeys, and Tsai Yung-chieh from the CTBC Brothers. Additionally, several players selected in this year's CPBL draft are included, such as Chen Chao-yi, Li Sung-jui, Yen Cheng-en, Huang Chieh-han, Li Sheng-han, and Shirai Yuto.

The starting lineup for Taiwan's game against the U.S. is as follows: Tseng Sheng-an (right field), Cheng Chun-wei (shortstop), Hsu Ting-lun (left field), Chang Chao-hung (designated hitter), Ho Pin-shih-jung (center field), Tsai Yung-chieh (third base), Wu Cheng-hao (second base), Wang Chia-yi (first base), and Shirai Yuto (catcher). While Cheng Chun-wei plays for Taipower and Wang Chia-yi for Lieto-bo, the rest of the starting lineup consists of players affiliated with professional clubs.
