Four remanded in custody for illegal cigarette production

Viborg, Denmark – Four people have been taken into custody and remanded in custody for their alleged roles in a large-scale operation involving the production and sale of illegal cigarettes. The detentions followed a significant police action coordinated across several police districts and in collaboration with the Danish Tax Agency and Customs Agency.

In unrelated news, eight children and young people have been moved to a new temporary home following a fire at a residential facility. Carsten Bredahl, director of the Hedehusene foundation which operates the facility, stated that the focus is currently on caring for the young residents. The cause of the fire is being investigated by North Jutland Police, who have indicated they do not suspect arson.

Meanwhile, meteorologists are increasingly in agreement about the likelihood of a strong El Niño event later this year. The Copernicus Climate Change Service reported that Western Europe experienced an unusually early and intense heatwave in May. Carlo Buontempo, director of Copernicus, told AFP that "The probability strongly speaks for a moderate to strong or likely strong to record-breaking event at this time."
