Four Seas Gang Money Laundering Ring Laundered $8.4 Billion; Five Indicted

Taiwanese authorities have dismantled a sophisticated money laundering network allegedly run by the Four Seas Gang, leading to the indictment of five individuals. The operation, uncovered during an investigation into a 200-kilogram methamphetamine smuggling case, revealed a massive financial scheme.

The group, led by the gang's alleged "chief accountant" Dong Yun-sheng and including Huang Shun-jen, established a "money washing room" to launder illicit funds. They reportedly utilized 21 shell companies and falsified accounting records to move more than NT$8.4 billion overseas to six different countries. This operation is considered the largest cross-border money laundering scheme ever attributed to a Taiwanese organized crime syndicate.

The Keelung District Prosecutors Office has concluded its investigation, indicting the five suspects on charges related to money laundering. Prosecutors are pushing for heavy sentences, emphasizing the significant scale and international reach of the criminal enterprise. The investigation highlights the ongoing efforts by Taiwanese law enforcement to combat organized crime and financial fraud.
