Four suspected cultists arrested in Edo

Authorities in Nigeria's Edo State have apprehended four individuals suspected of cultism following a targeted raid on their hideout. The operation, conducted by the Edo State Special Security Squad in collaboration with other security agencies, took place in the Egbaen Community of Ovia North-East Local Government Area.

In the early hours of Sunday, we received intelligence that some members of the Black Axe group were planning to carry out an initiation in Egbaen Community, which could have led to other criminal activities capable of causing a breakdown of law and order.

Led by the Principal Security Officer to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Saturday Okoh, the security operatives stormed the hideout in the early hours of Sunday. During the search, a cache of weapons was discovered, including four locally made pistols, one cut-to-size gun, a Beretta pistol, and a machete. The suspects were taken into custody.

While the arrested individuals reportedly denied owning the recovered firearms, they allegedly confessed to being members of the Aiye Confraternity. The raid was prompted by credible intelligence received by the security squad regarding a planned initiation ceremony by members of the Black Axe group, which could have potentially led to a breakdown of law and order.

We responded immediately, moved into the community and successfully apprehended four suspects while recovering dangerous weapons.

Coordinator of the squad, Noah Idemudia, praised the public for providing crucial intelligence that aids their operations. He urged continued cooperation, emphasizing that timely information is vital for the squad's success in maintaining peace and safety within Edo State.
