Fourth Tasmanian road death in a week prompts police safety plea

A woman has died and two people remain in critical condition after a head-on crash at Old Beach, north of Hobart, the fourth fatality on Tasmanian roads within a week.

Emergency services were called to East Derwent Highway near Riviera Drive at about 1:30 p.m. on Monday after a blue Nissan and a silver Great Wall collided. The Nissan’s female front-seat passenger died at the scene. The Nissan’s female driver and the Great Wall’s male driver were taken to Royal Hobart Hospital, where both remained in critical condition.
