Fourth Teenager Arrested in Murder of University Student Jafet González

Authorities in Veraguas have apprehended a fourth teenager allegedly involved in the disappearance and murder of Jafet González, a young man who worked for a digital ride-sharing platform. The arrest was made by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Adolescents in Veraguas, with support from auxiliary units.

This latest apprehension increases the number of individuals linked to the case to six. Among them are four minors, three of whom are already under provisional detention. The fourth minor is awaiting a hearing for the formal charging of offenses. Two adults, aged 18 and 19, are also implicated.

All individuals connected to the case face investigations for aggravated homicide, aggravated robbery, deprivation of liberty, and criminal association. These charges are expected to be formally presented against the fourth adolescent suspect in an upcoming hearing.

The crime occurred on the night of August 11, 2026, in the Santiago district. The victim was reportedly approached by the assailants while he was providing his ride-sharing service. The Attorney General's Office has reiterated its commitment to pursuing criminal action in court, emphasizing adherence to citizens' rights, the Constitution, and the law.
