France: 13,000 businesses evacuated due to wildfires; aid announced for victims

The devastating wildfires sweeping through France's Gironde region have forced the evacuation of an estimated 13,000 businesses, according to Economy Minister Roland Lescure. This figure, currently provisional, underscores the significant economic impact of the fires, which are still not under control.

In response to the crisis, insurers have pledged to cover the relocation expenses for individuals and businesses displaced by the fires affecting the Gironde, Landes, and Var departments. This support was communicated to the minister by France Assureur, the industry's federation. Additionally, affected parties will have until at least August 31st to declare damages, a substantial extension from the usual five-day period.

To manage the ongoing situation, Minister Lescure announced that daily meetings will now be held with economic stakeholders. These regular consultations aim to track the evolving situation and coordinate responses to mitigate the damage caused by the relentless fires.
