France: Firefighters battle blazes in Var and Gironde amid stable but vigilant conditions

In the Var department, a new fire that began Friday has consumed approximately 1,800 hectares. This adds to the already significant damage, bringing the total area burned in the "Provence verte" region to about 6,300 hectares over the past twelve days. Consequently, 2,500 residents have been evacuated from their homes. Fire officials aim to reassure the public and prevent any further destruction of houses.

This is the fourth major fire in the central Var region this summer, an area known for its vineyards, olive groves, and stone villages. The current fire season is approaching the severity of 2021, when 6,841 hectares burned in total. Meanwhile, in Gironde, a massive fire had previously scorched 42,000 hectares over eleven days, though its situation is now reported as stable.
