France Heatwave: 43 Departments on Orange Alert as Fire Risk Remains High

France is experiencing a severe heatwave, with 43 departments placed under orange vigilance for high temperatures on Tuesday. The weather forecast indicates that temperatures will remain significantly above seasonal averages, with no lasting cool-down in sight.

Much of the country is facing intense heat, with temperatures exceeding 30°C from Rouen to Perpignan. In many regions, particularly the southwest, center-east, and southeast, highs are frequently surpassing 35°C, and locally reaching 38°C to 40°C, or even higher in exposed areas.

While sunshine dominates, some clouds may appear in the afternoon and evening, especially in the southern half of the country. Strong thunderstorms are anticipated, primarily over the mountainous areas of the Alps, Pyrenees, and Massif Central. These storms could extend into the plains in the southern half during the afternoon and evening, prompting caution for hikers in the mountains.

The prolonged heat and extreme dryness of vegetation, combined with very low air humidity, contribute to a very high risk of fires. This risk is particularly pronounced in the southern and southeastern parts of France. Authorities are urging vigilance due to the persistent heat and the elevated danger of wildfires.
