Francesco Guccini, a towering figure in Italian music and songwriting, has died at the age of 86. He passed away this morning in Pavana, his family announced, surrounded by his wife Raffaella, daughter Teresa, and other relatives.

Born in Modena in 1940, Guccini spent his childhood in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. He had a varied career, working as a teacher, a journalist for Gazzetta di Modena, and in advertising before reluctantly entering the music scene. He initially wrote songs for artists like Caterina Caselli and the Beat groups Equipe 84 and Nomadi, penning hits such as "Auschwitz" and "Dio è morto."
