Argentine racing driver Franco Colapinto faced a significant setback at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone after spinning his Alpine during the first qualifying session. The incident means Colapinto will start Sunday's race from the 19th position, considerably complicating his prospects of securing points for his team.

The qualifying session saw Colapinto lose control of his car in the high-speed Maggots and Becketts complex during his second attempt in Q1. The car spun at high velocity, briefly lifting off the ground before coming to a halt without impacting any barriers. This mishap occurred despite Colapinto setting a personal best in the first sector of the circuit on his previous lap.

Earlier in the weekend, Colapinto had shown promise by finishing 12th in the sprint race, advancing from 14th on the grid. However, his performance in the main qualifying session did not mirror this success. He was running in 17th place at the time of his spin, which placed him outside the cut-off for Q2. The sprint race itself was won by Kimi Antonelli, with Lewis Hamilton also achieving a circuit lap record.
