Freddie Mercury’s ‘splendid things’ to go on display at V&A

A collection of eight famous costumes worn by the legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury is set to go on public display at London's Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A). The exhibition, titled 'Splendid Things,' will offer fans an intimate look at the stage attire that defined Mercury's electrifying career.

The display has been developed in collaboration with Mary Austin, Mercury's former fiancée and close friend, who is lending seven of the iconic looks. These garments span Mercury's career, from his early days in the 1970s through to his final years, showcasing the evolution of his unique style.

Among the featured costumes are the outfit worn on the cover of Queen's debut album and the distinctive catsuit from the music video for 'Bohemian Rhapsody.' The exhibition aims to celebrate what would have been the singer's 80th birthday, providing a significant cultural event for music enthusiasts and fashion admirers alike.

'Splendid Things' will be a free trail at the V&A, running from October 24, 2026, to January 17, 2027. The exhibition promises to bring a piece of rock and roll history to life, honoring the enduring legacy of one of music's most beloved and flamboyant performers.
