Freedom 250 in Jerusalem: America Celebrates 250 Years at a Defining Moment

The United States will celebrate its 250th birthday in Jerusalem at a moment the US Embassy describes as defining for the American-Israeli alliance.

The embassy’s “Freedom 250” event will take place at the Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem for the second consecutive year. Ambassador Mike Huckabee is leading the celebration, which follows a period of close cooperation between the two countries during the recent war with Iran.

In a recorded message, Huckabee called the museum “an international beacon of hope and human dignity in the heart of Israel’s capital and a valued strategic partner of the U.S. Embassy.” He said, “This year, we gather at a truly historic moment. As the U.S.-Israel alliance continues to reach new heights, we celebrate not only 250 years of American independence but also the enduring partnership between two nations bound by shared values, democratic ideals, and an unwavering commitment to freedom.”

The Museum of Tolerance presents itself as more than a traditional museum. It has become a venue for dialogue, education, diplomacy, leadership and civic engagement, bringing together diplomats, faith communities, students, educators and visitors from Israel and abroad.

Since October 7, the museum says that work has taken on greater urgency. Exhibitions including “6:29 - From Darkness to Light,” “Faces of Israel” and “Love in the Shadow of War” address identity, memory, resilience and human dignity while presenting Israel’s story to international audiences.

The “6:29” exhibition was created in response to the Hamas massacre and features testimonies from women affected by the events of October 7. It uses live holograms, advanced technology and photography by Israeli photographers. More than 130,000 people, including world leaders and official delegations, have visited it.

The museum is also supporting its School of Civic Discourse and Leadership Academy. Those programs focus on polarization, radicalization, extremism, misinformation and the rise in global antisemitism.
