French politician files complaint over rap song's terrorism and insult references

French politician Éric Ciotti has filed a complaint against rapper Boro700 over lyrics that allegedly insult his and his predecessor's partners and reference Islamist terrorism.

The complaint, filed with the public prosecutor in Nice, targets a song titled "M*R*H," which makes explicit references to terrorists Mohamed Merah and Adolf Hitler, as well as the Bataclan attack. The lyrics include phrases like "I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid of hell, the pact is intact, only Allah can stop me. Bataclan, they were playing dead, lie down, I'll shoot one in the eye. I fuck Estrosi's and Ciotti's women, light seven terraces, we are in the trenches."

The song, which has garnered nearly a million streams on Spotify, also contains repeated references to "I'll do an Adolf Hitler to him." Ciotti stated that the public dissemination of such content "seriously harms the memory of terrorism victims, trivializes extremely serious acts, and fuels a climate of hatred and intimidation towards public officials."

Ciotti has also written to the Interior Minister, Laurent Nunez, urging the state to "show the utmost firmness in the face of these excesses." He emphasized that the fight against glorifying terrorism and the rapid removal of illicit content "must be absolute priorities."

As of Thursday afternoon, the song was no longer available on YouTube. The prosecutor's office is currently analyzing the complaint.
