French streamer admits posing as Muslim woman online

The French streamer Emmodem, who boasts tens of thousands of followers on Twitch and X, has confessed to impersonating an Arab Muslim woman on social media for months using a secret account. This admission came after an investigation by the X user known as "TwitchGauchiste," who focuses on publishing "clips" that criticize the online conduct of left-wing and far-left influencers.

Carla Giardina, Emmodem's real name, presented herself as a "polemicist" on X and is now at the center of a significant controversy. The investigation into her actions was initiated in March by TwitchGauchiste, who was also instrumental in the removal of streamer Ultia from the National Centre for Cinema and the Moving Image (CNC). At that time, Giardina had expressed satisfaction with her appointment to the "social platform creation aid fund" commission, stating it was appropriate to favor political allies.

Emmodem, who is known for her close ties to the political party La France insoumise, has since issued an apology for her elaborate deception. The details of her online persona and the extent of her posts, reportedly over 5,000 messages, have raised questions about her motives and the impact of her actions on public discourse.
