From fire to shelter: dog and her puppies saved in Panamá Oeste

A mother dog and her litter of puppies narrowly escaped a dangerous fire in Valle Dorado, La Chorrera, Panamá Oeste. Residents of the area acted swiftly to suppress the flames engulfing a patch of dry grass, preventing a potential tragedy for the trapped animals. The quick response allowed for the rescue of the dogs before the fire could inflict serious harm.

Following the incident on Wednesday morning, June 3, animal welfare personnel arrived to provide care for the canines. They were subsequently transferred to a temporary shelter. During the rescue operation, one of the puppies had to be retrieved from a storm drain where its mother had apparently placed it in an effort to shield it from the danger.

The incident has raised alarm within the community, prompting residents to urge the public against abandoning pets or engaging in actions that endanger animals, particularly those living as strays. Authorities have reiterated that animal mistreatment remains a persistent issue in the district. The Department of Animal Welfare in La Chorrera reportedly receives over 15 daily complaints concerning animals that are tied up, deprived of adequate food, ill, or abandoned.
