Fubara committed no sin — Wike

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara committed no wrongdoing by reconciling with his political camp, asserting that "there is no sin in politics." Wike views Fubara's decision to rejoin the political family that supported his rise as a correct move that will bolster efforts to rally support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election in 2027.

Speaking to journalists after inspecting road projects in the FCT on Tuesday, Wike addressed suggestions that Fubara had been forgiven following their protracted political dispute. He dismissed the notion of "sin" in politics, stating, "If someone realizes they made a mistake and decides to correct it, there is nothing wrong with that. Politics is not a sin. What matters is recognizing that you were on the wrong path and making the right decision."

Wike recalled predicting Fubara's return during a previous media interaction, noting that the governor had no alternative but to return to his political roots. "I said during my last media chat that he had no other choice but to return to the same political family that produced him. I have now been informed that he has made that declaration publicly, and we welcome him. Our doors are open. Everyone is welcome for us to work together. There is no better alternative. We will all work together to move the state forward," he said.

The FCT minister emphasized that Fubara's public reconciliation would significantly boost President Tinubu's re-election campaign. "He has publicly stated that he has returned to where he started, and we receive him with an open mind. There is nothing to hide. We will all work together to ensure that we deliver the votes President Tinubu needs for his re-election," Wike stated.

Governor Fubara had last week announced his return to Wike's political family during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Rivien Medical Industry project in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. He declared support for the Rainbow Coalition, endorsed President Tinubu for a second term, and urged his supporters to back all candidates of the coalition, proclaiming that the period of political conflict in the state was over and it was time to move forward.
