Fuel allowance for 'high mileage' workers: application deadline extended to end of month

The deadline for French workers to apply for a 100-euro fuel allowance has been extended to August 31, according to a decree published in the Official Journal. This aid is intended for modest households who drive significant distances for their work.

The fuel allowance was initially announced in April as a response to the impact of the war in the Middle East on fuel prices. The government later decided to double the amount from the initially planned 50 euros to 100 euros. This measure aims to support workers facing increased transportation costs.

To be eligible, individuals must have a reference tax income of 16,880 euros or less per tax unit. They must also demonstrate a substantial commute, either traveling at least 15 kilometers (30 kilometers round trip) daily for work or covering more than 8,000 kilometers per year for professional reasons, including their commute. The application process is conducted online via the tax authorities' website.

The government's support for this program represents an average of 20 cents per liter of fuel. The extension provides an additional opportunity for eligible workers to claim this financial assistance.
