Fuel prices on Monday, September 7: Gasoline reaches 9.73 lei per liter across most of Romania

Gasoline reached 9.73 lei per liter in most parts of Romania on Monday, September 7, while diesel continued to cost more than 10 lei per liter at most stations.

Drivers could still find gasoline at 9.49 lei per liter in Mureș and Dâmbovița counties. In Dâmbovița, the lowest price was reported in Lungulețu. Prices stood at about 9.56 lei in Timiș and Bistrița-Năsăud.

Diesel was cheapest in Mureș, where a liter sold for 9.97 lei. Liquefied petroleum gas prices in major cities ranged from 4.59 to 4.67 lei per liter. Cluj-Napoca had the lowest listed price, followed by Bucharest at 4.63 lei, Constanța at 4.65 lei, and Timișoara and Iași at 4.67 lei.

According to Peco Online, the average gasoline price increased 3.9% compared with the previous month. Filling a 50-liter tank therefore cost 18.5 lei more than it did 30 days earlier. The average diesel price fell 3.6%, making a 50-liter fill 19 lei cheaper than a month ago.

The increase in fuel prices comes after authorities had already reduced the diesel excise duty to the maximum level allowed by law. Peco Online data show that average prices have risen substantially in recent years. In 2021, gasoline averaged 5.69 lei per liter and diesel 5.65 lei. By 2026, the averages had reached 8.62 lei for gasoline, 9.12 lei for diesel, and 4.25 lei for LPG.
