Fuel prices surge in Romania as gasoline hits record and diesel tops 10 lei per liter

Gasoline has reached a historic high at stations operated by OMV Petrom, while diesel has moved above 10 lei per liter across Romania after the country’s largest fuel-market player raised prices.

Petrom and OMV increased diesel by 13 bani per liter and gasoline by 9 bani. On Friday, standard gasoline cost between 9.51 and 9.54 lei per liter at Socar stations, 9.57 lei at Lukoil and 9.59 lei at Rompetrol. Petrom listed the price at 9.64 lei, while OMV and MOL recorded the highest listed price, 9.70 lei per liter.

Diesel prices also rose. Petrom offered the lowest listed standard diesel price among the major chains, at 10.10 lei per liter. Lukoil had the highest, at 10.23 lei. Socar listed prices between 10.14 and 10.19 lei, while OMV and MOL each listed 10.16 lei and Rompetrol 10.18 lei.

Data from the peco-online.ro portal showed that the cheapest gasoline was available in Zalău, in Sălaj County, at a Socar station for 9.48 lei per liter. The cheapest diesel was reported in Gherla, Cluj County, at a DHR station, where it cost 9.96 lei per liter.

The increases came after authorities had already reduced the diesel excise duty to the maximum level allowed by law.
